The following is schedule of events for the 2008 Old Route 66 Car Show and Neon Cruise.  This will be the eighth consecutive year that we have celebrated Route 66 here in Albuquerque.  This year we will be working, not only with the city of Albuquerque, the Downtown Action Team, ACVB, but also with American General Media Radio Stations, and San Felipe Casino Hollywood as the event sponsor. 

Friday, June 20

12:00 PM to 9:00 – Registration of participants for the event will begin at San Felipe Casino Hollywood.  Located off Interstate 25 at exit 252, about 25 miles north of Albuqueruqe.

• Participants will receive goodie bags which will contain schedule of events, name badges, special offers/prizes from our sponsors, event T-shirts, advertisements, etc.
• The location of the casino is unique in that the west end of the race track is on top of the old Route 66 northern alignment and just behind the casino to the south is the “Big Cut”, well known to Route 66 enthusiasts
• Lots of give aways, hats, t-shirts, car wax, tools, etc. donated by various sponsors.  They will be given away throughout the event.

5:00 PM – Barbecue (hot dogs, hamburgers, etc) for car show participants provided by the Casino. 

6:00 PM – Solar Street band will play until 8:00

Saturday, June 21

8:00 AM  - Poker Run - from a local new car dealer (to be named soon) and proceed through Albuquerque, Bernalillo and ending at Casino Hollywood.  We will make about 7 stops.  $5.00 entry fee.

• Each participant receives a playing card at each stop      
• Sponsors will do a give away / promotion item for participants as they stop by to pick up their card.
• At the end, participants will have 7 cards and play their best 5 to win half of the pot built up by participant dollars.  The other half will go to a children’s charity.

2:00 PM -  Participants will move to downtown Albuquerque for a Show ‘n Shine car show on Central Ave between 2nd and 8th  Streets. 

• Albuquerque Summer Fest will participate with us in the Downtown Celebration by providing bands afternoon and evening, for the participants.
• Solar Street Band will also be playing
• Big Oldies 98 live remote w/ music by the station
• Lots of prizes to give away during the day provided by sponsors
• For the first time, Bands from Summerfest will be participating in the Old Route 66 Car Show. They will be playing into the evening hours.

9:00  PM - Neon Cruise, this will be the 8th consecutive Neon Cruise down Central Ave, Route 66.  This has always been the most popular event of the Car Show with a turn out of usually 300 to 400 cars.  We will leave from the Downtown area and head east to the Highland Theatre and park behind the theatre.

• Cruise usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour
• We will have people lining Central Ave. or sitting at their favorite outdoor eating establishment to watch the cruise which creates a great atmosphere for the participants as well as the onlookers.

Sunday, June 22

                         
10:00 - 11:00 AM - Chapel service at San Felipe Casino Hollywood

11:00 - 12:00 Noon - Presentation of trophies

2:00  PM - We will be giving away a 1968 California Special Mustang, all original, mint condition. 

Promotions:

• We will be working with AGM Radio Stations who will be putting together the sponsorship / advertising package. 
• We will be expecting 400 to 500 cars with 2 people per car which will be 800 to 900 people. 
• A large number of these participants will be from out of town.  Typically we have people coming from California to Michigan, from Canada to Texas.
• We will also be reaching out to the general public with family friendly events in the downtown area. Estimated general public attendance 3 - 4,000.
